STFA, founded in 1938 as a partnership between two civil engineers, Mr. Sezai Turkes and Mr. Feyzi Akkaya, initially specialized in bridge construction and piling works.

Over the years, the company diversified into the construction of dams, roads, bridges, tunnels and marine structures. It also established a plan to extend its activities into the international construction market.

In early 1970's STFA became the first Turkish contractor to win contracts in Libya, where five major harbours and many other civil projects were successfully constructed within the time constraints established by contract and within the agreed upon budget. STFA also won other international contracts in Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Tunisia.

In 1992, STFA was again the first Turkish Contractor to be awarded contracts, this time highway and marine contracts in Pakistan. With the international experience it gained and the reputation it built up in these countries, STFA set its sights on new targets and became a truly international construction company.

Today, 24 STFA companies provide specialized engineering and construction services to clients from various countries on projects ranging from large to small.

STFA manufacturing companies exhibit a variety of products ranging from hi-tech naval vessels to sophisticated electronic equipment. Other companies of the group are excelling in the automotive industry, maritime trading, and in the management and development of tourist resorts. In addition to its fully controlled companies, the STFA Group also has joint ventures (50/50) with two American and one English companies: Ogden, Grace and Compass.

All of these partnerships originated from former STFA companies, which operated in some of the fastest growing industries and which have empowered themselves with contributions from their partners including improved management and technology.

STFA Group managers are qualified and experienced in the various fields in which their companies operate, and each organization has a special place under the umbrella of the STFA Holding Inc.

The STFA Group in turn represents the whole group and uses its full capacity to overcome even the greatest challenges in accomplishing large projects with integrity and excellence. The STFA model of growth has developed and practiced successfully within the group since the early 1960s. The growth of STFA has been based on specialised companies managed autonomously. The group companies may undertake any project within their capacity, and can easily be supported under the flag of the STFA Group when tackling extraordinarily large projects.
